Tester Simon Withers rode the Contend AR 3 model and was immediately struck by its color and graphics. “Of all the bikes I had on test, the Contend AR was one that really turned heads on its arrival,” he wrote. “People were wowed by its ‘garnet’ paintjob, which stands out in comparison against the blander-looking, largely monochromatic bikes it’s up against.”
The Contend AR’s ride quality stood out as well. The ALUXX aluminum frame features balanced road geometry, and a D-Fuse composite seatpost reduces road shocks and vibrations. Added clearance and a tubeless-ready Giant WheelSystem lets you run high-volume tubeless tires (up to 38mm) for a smoother ride on rough roads with a reduced risk of flats.
“The Giant’s strongest quality is its handling, which is hard to better,” Withers wrote. “Descending is confident and controlled with decent grip from the 32mm tyres and there’s good braking from the Tektro mechanical discs.”
Summing it up, Withers concluded: “It has a plush ride that you will never grow tired of and it tackles potholes and winter-scarred roads with a ‘so-what’ attitude. The Giant’s hour-after-hour comfort is welcome on day-long rides, while there’s enough stiffness for a final, exhilarating sprint home.”
